Vatican Classic Private Tour
The Vatican Classic tour is Kai Travel’s essential Vatican experience: a comprehensive private guided visit to the Vatican Museums, the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter’s Basilica, carefully paced to give you genuine depth rather than a rushed overview. Whether it’s your first visit to Rome or your fifth, a private Vatican tour with a knowledgeable guide transforms what can be an overwhelming experience into something coherent, personal and deeply memorable.
The Vatican Museums
Founded in the early 16th century by Pope Julius II and expanded by successive pontiffs over five centuries, the Vatican Museums today house one of the largest and most important art collections in the world. More than 70,000 works are catalogued in the collection, with around 20,000 on permanent display across a complex of 54 galleries. Navigating them without a guide is possible; understanding them is another matter entirely.
Your private guide will lead you through the collection’s highlights with a clear narrative arc, connecting artworks to the historical and theological context in which they were created. The journey typically begins with the classical sculpture galleries — including the Apollo Belvedere and the Laocoön, two of the most influential sculptures in Western art history — before moving through the Gallery of Maps, a 120-metre corridor lined with 40 topographic maps of Italy painted in the 1580s that remain strikingly accurate to this day. The corridor’s ceiling, covered in intricate grotesque decoration by a team of painters working under Girolamo Muziano and Cesare Nebbia, is itself a masterpiece that most visitors barely notice as they move through.
The Sistine Chapel
The Sistine Chapel is the culmination of the tour and one of the great artistic achievements of human civilisation. Michelangelo painted the ceiling between 1508 and 1512 — working alone, on scaffolding, in the technically demanding medium of fresco — producing a visual narrative of the Book of Genesis that has defined Western religious imagery ever since. Your guide will help you read the ceiling systematically, identifying the nine central panels and the surrounding prophets, sibyls and ancestral figures that create one of the most complex and coherent pictorial programmes ever conceived. The guide will also explain the Last Judgement on the altar wall — painted a full 25 years later, when Michelangelo was in his sixties and the Catholic Church was in crisis — and what changed between the two works.
St. Peter’s Basilica
Your tour concludes in St. Peter’s Basilica — the largest church in the world and the symbolic heart of the Catholic faith. You’ll see Michelangelo’s Pietà, created when the sculptor was only 24 years old and already displaying the technical mastery that would make him the dominant artist of his century. Bernini’s breathtaking 29-metre-high bronze baldachin over the Papal Altar, and the extraordinary spatial experience of a nave designed by the greatest architects of the Renaissance and Baroque periods, complete the experience.

sistine chapel
Definitely the most known work of art of all time, the frescoes by Michelangelo are considered the finest work of art ever created by Man. The iconic narration of the vault dedicaded to the Holy Creation and the Bible is a pendant of the huge wall scene (60 feet tall) just behind the altar: the “Last Judgment” with its 391 figures.
St. Peter's Basilica
The largest Basilica in the world is also home to worldwide masterpieces like the famous Pietà by Michelangelo and the Bernini's Baldacchino. The Basilica was originally built above the tomb of the Prince of the Apostles, where the Pope visits every Christmas or Easter Time.
